Shakespeare Surgery is proud
to announce that we are working in
partnership with Ashton, Leigh and
Wigan PCT to help improve the health
of the local community.
It has been noted that our practice
population based upon the addresses
where
our patients live has the has the
third highest deprivation score in
the Primary
Care Trust. As such for the last
eighteen months we have been working
with the
PCT to try and find out the needs of
the practice’s population and see
how we
can start to meet them.
One area that has been identified is
the inaccessibility of health care
services
to younger people. As such we have
been working with the PCT and
various
elements of Wigan Council to launch
a Teenage Health Service. It is
envisioned
that this will be looking at all
health related issues that are
relevant for
people in the 14-19 age range
including diet and weight, smoking,
alcohol, drugs
and contraception. The practice is
specifically addressing issues of
confidentiality, ease of access and
promptness of service for identified
needs
to encourage our patients to make
use of this service.
Over the coming weeks we will
be contacting people in the relevant
age groups to inform them more about
this new service. In the meantime if
you require more information please
contact the surgery or come and see
either one of the doctors or the
nurse in person.
We are also continuing to gather
information on the needs of others
within the
practice to tailor service to suit
their needs. It would be helpful
therefore if
you could work with us by assisting
if you are asked to fill in a
questionnaire
or invited to a patient meeting to
discuss issues in more detail.
